Rea,
Today is a special day - your birthday!
Since you like to research what each day is about, I thought I’d do the same in today’s letter. Of the many things that happened on January 27th over the centuries, here are three that stood out to me.
On January 27, 1880 — exactly 134 years before your birthday — Thomas Edison got a patent for his light bulb. After trying over 1,000 different materials, he finally found one that worked: a special kind of bamboo that could glow for hours without burning up.
In 1973, the Paris Peace Accords were signed, ending America’s direct involvement in the Vietnam War. After years of conflict, representatives from North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and the United States came together to work out a plan for peace. It was like turning on a light of hope after a long period of darkness.
And in 2010, Steve Jobs walked onto a stage and showed the world the first iPad. He wanted to create something that would make it easier for everyone to read, draw, learn, and connect with others. That day lit up new possibilities for how we could use technology in our daily lives.
But most of all, on this day your arrival lit up our family. The way you notice things, how you come up with your own words, and your excitement about learning new things — these all add brightness to our days.
I am so glad to be on this journey of life and discovery with you.
Love, Abba
